Description

Rare original Bally “Heavy Hitter” electromechanical baseball arcade machine, manufactured in the USA and introduced by Bally Manufacturing Co. in 1947.

This is the desirable early Model 488 Heavy Hitter, produced from 1947 into 1949, and should not be confused with Bally's completely different later Heavy Hitter of 1959. PinRepair

Heavy Hitter is an early pitch-and-bat baseball arcade game. The machine automatically pitches a steel ball towards the mechanical bat, with the player attempting to hit the ball into the Single, Double, Triple and Home Run scoring holes.

One of the game's most fascinating features is its animated backglass baseball diamond. Steel balls represent the runners and mechanically advance around the bases as hits are scored. PinRepair

This example retains its colourful original-style Heavy Hitter backglass and baseball playfield, wooden cabinet, glass, mechanical bat assembly and substantial original internal electromechanical equipment.

The rear cabinet remains populated with its period motors, relays, solenoids, switches, stepper mechanisms, terminal boards and cloth-covered wiring.

Condition: This machine is currently not operating and is offered as an unrestored restoration project. No representation is made that every component required for operation is present.

The cabinet, playfield and backglass show the wear, marks and deterioration expected of an arcade machine approaching 80 years old. Please examine photographs carefully.

The machine retains a US 110/115V electrical plug and configuration and must not be connected directly to Australian 230–240V mains power. Appropriate electrical inspection and voltage conversion/step-down equipment will be required before testing or operation in Australia.

A scarce survivor from the golden age of American coin-operated amusement machines and an excellent restoration candidate for a collector of vintage arcade machines, pinball, baseball memorabilia or early electromechanical games.
