Magnificent limited-edition facsimile of Die Kupferbibel Matthäus Merians von 1630, reproducing the celebrated illustrated Bible of Matthäus Merian the Elder (1593–1650).

Produced by Coron Verlag as a luxury collector's facsimile in the early 2000s, this impressive edition faithfully reproduces the famous hand-coloured 1630 Bible and its extraordinary series of illustrations.

The monumental folio is presented in an elaborate full leather binding, richly decorated in the 17th-century manner with gilt and blind-tooled ornament, substantial metal corner mounts and two metal clasps. The page edges are gilt.

Internally, the work contains spectacular colour reproductions of Merian's celebrated biblical engravings, accompanying Martin Luther's German biblical text in period-style typography.

The facsimile is accompanied by its original scholarly commentary/reference volume, Die Kupferbibel Matthäus Merians von 1630.

Importantly, this example also retains its original purchase receipt showing an original purchase price of €1,500, providing excellent provenance for the set.
