Ember Antiques Art & Clocks is pleased to offer Miners with Windlass, an original oil painting by celebrated Australian artist Pro Hart MBE (1928–2006).

This intimate work depicts two miners beside a traditional windlass, surrounded by the distinctive colours and landscape of the Broken Hill mining country.

The subject has particular relevance within Pro Hart's oeuvre. Before becoming a full-time artist, Hart worked underground in the Broken Hill mines, and mining life, miners and the surrounding outback subsequently became recurring subjects within his work.

Executed in oil on hardboard, the painting combines Hart's characteristic strong colour with a compact narrative composition. The two miners, windlass and equipment occupy the centre of the scene, framed by slender outback trees and the brilliant blue and ochre landscape beyond.

At just 15 × 14.5 cm, it is a small but highly appealing example of Hart's work, with a subject directly connected to both the artist's personal history and the mining heritage of Broken Hill.

Importantly, the painting is accompanied by a Certificate of Valuation from David Hart Galleries, which specifically identifies the work as Miners with Windlass.
